Halifax v Bolton: The Preview

|

Concerts, strikes, opposition pitches not ready. It has been a weird pre-season for Wanderers, but tomorrow may see the novel idea of a game, and also the appearance of first-team players. The opposition are FC Halifax Town of the National League, managed by ex-Wanderers youth boss Jamie Fullarton, and including former players Niall Maher and Sanmi Odelusi.

Team News

Erhun Oztumer is unavailable as he has a slight hip problem but should be ready at some point over the next week. Senior players should be getting run-outs tomorrow, with Phil Parkinson telling the Bolton News, “We’ll take all the available professionals to Halifax and then see where we go from there.”

Stats and Facts

Bolton only played the original Halifax Town six times in the league, but also played them five times in the FA Cup (including the 1986 tie which went to a second replay, Wanderers eventually winning 3-1). Bolton never lost a competitive game, winning six and drawing five.

Our last trip to Halifax was in 1988, a goalless draw in the fourth division.

Prediction

2-0 to Bolton, although I’ll admit I’m plucking a scoreline out of the air there.
