Manager Neil Lennon has said he felt our second half performance yesterday against Cardiff City more than warranted a return of all three points.

Three second half goals, one from Gudjohnsen and a Davies brace gave us all three points on our trip to Wales, and a delighted Lennon told the Official Site following the game that our second half showing entitled us to the points in his mind.

“It was an outstanding performance, particularly in the second half. We scored three fantastic goals, and I think some of the football we played was the kind of stuff we`ve been striving for recently. I though Emile and Craig upfront were superb. They`re a real handful on their day. It`s the first time we`ve been able to play those two together in a long time. In fact, the last time we did was away at Sheffield Wednesday when we won.’

Having praised the forward boys, Lennon moved on to the midfield of Vela, Bannan and Eidur and said they made all the ‘difference’ to the performance as well, and crucially the backline were resolute all game so we had that foundation to kick on and improve without having to make back any ground.

‘Having Bogdan back in the side was a real bonus. He added a real calmness about us defensively. We looked like a really good and strong away team today. At times we had to absorb pressure, but we did that well and looked good going forward. We targeted four points from our two recent games against Blackpool and Cardiff. We`ve got that, though I don`t think we really expected it to come the way it has.’

Lennon went on to say that really he feels we are safe from relegation now so the question changes to how high can we push on in the remaining few matches so we really finish strongly and with something to celebrate.

To do that he wants our away form to match the home form so we have a far better balance.
