Manager Neil Lennon has said that he can take little solice in knowing that Bolton pushed promotion chasers Norwich City all the way at the Macron Stadium at the weekend.

Another late goal, many would say against the run of play, was Bolton’s undoing once more and a frustrated gaffer told the Official Site that he really felt we were the better team for large parts, but again our Achilles heel has undone us once more.

‘We pushed Norwich very close. I thought we were the better team in the second half. Yes, we lacked a bit of quality in the final third, but in terms of possession and play we were good. We are disappointed with the manner of the first goal. A player in our wall turns their back and the deflection then wrong-foots our goalkeeper. After their opening goal we looked a little bit spooked, but we held on and then scored a wonderful equaliser. It was a great ball in from the left and a superb finish from Adam.’

Lennon went on to say that bringing on some fresh legs in the second half, he really felt like it gave us the impetus but at that stage he thought the game was heading to a draw as both sides were comfortable, but weren’t really looking like scoring or causing the opposition any problems.

The problem is over the last few good weeks the opposition don’t need to look like scoring, because we invariably look like conceding.

‘We looked pretty comfortable, but the way we are conceding goals late in games is alarming. We shouldn`t be leaving a striker of Gary Hooper`s quality in space at any time, let alone in the last few seconds of a game. It was not as if Norwich cut us open with a brilliant bit of football. It was a long diagonal ball forward that we failed to deal with. That isn`t good enough from our point of view. Overall, were we pleased with the performance? Yes, we were, but we can take absolutely no consolation for pushing Norwich close.’

Lennon ends by saying really he feels we are ‘nearly there’ but that just makes the frustration even more annoying because being so close in his mind to a good, competitive Championship level team and then having individual errors, a lack of focus and mistakes like that continue to cost us after all the focus we’ve put on that is gutting.
