Bolton gave fans a rare day where they could relax and actually enjoy a game of football as they brushed aside Port Vale with a 3-1 win.

The game was done and dusted in 16 minutes. Zach Clough continued his hot streak with a low, hard finish from 25 yards on the spin.

Just minutes later, Josh Vela, who has been in great form since he was moved to play behind the striker, pounced to double the lead, then Lawrie Wilson volleyed home from distance to make it three.

The afternoon started with a bit of concern though. Having been named in the starting lineup, Jay Spearing seemed to suffer a reoccurance of his hip injury and Liam Trotter had to start.

But Wanderers wiped the floor with their Burslem opponents early on, with Derik orchestrating everything from the midfield.

The foot came off the gas in the second half, and the defence which had done so well in recent weeks finally conceded when Sam Hart headed home from a corner with 15 minutes to go.
