Nat Lofthouse has been voted England’s greatest ever header of a football.

The Times has been running a series of polls in the last few days, inviting readers to pick their favourite England players of all time.

And Lofthouse won this particlar poll, with the Lion of Vienna’s 30 goals in 33 international apperances including a number of headed efforts. Not to mention how difficult balls in those days were to head compared to what is used today, and a lot heavier.

While a number of Wanderers fans will have rightly got involved with the voting, it is nice to see our greatest ever player getting recognition from further afield, more than half a century on.
