After weeks of speculation, negotiation and denial, West Brom have signed centre back Abdoulaye Meite from Bolton, for a fee of £2 million, rising to £2.5 million dependent on him emerging from the dressing room after the half-time interval. Meite joins the Baggies in preference to Hull City who were also interested in the player.

The big Ivorian was always likely to leave the Reebok after falling out with Gary Megson last season, and his fate was sealed last week with the signing of Danny Shittu. Meite, who played 56 times for the Whites, has signed a three-year deal at the Hawthorns.
