No Return For Bolton Fans Yet

|

Fans won’t be allowed into the University of Bolton Stadium for the immediate future after the town was placed in Tier 3 for the latest Covid restrictions.

The new tiered system begins next week, and under the very highest tier, sport must remain behind closed doors, dashing hopes that there may have been a small crowd back in for next Saturday’s match against Port Vale. Ironically, season tickets were emailed out this morning.

Infection rates in Bolton, and Greater Manchester, are falling, so it may mean that when the next review comes around in a few weeks time, Bolton can drop into Tier 2 and we would then be permitted to have 2,000 fans through the turnstiles.

Bolton, Oldham, Salford, Mansfield, Scunthorpe and Grimsby are amongst the clubs in League Two that seemingly won’t be able to allow fans.

The Telegraph reports that only Cornwall, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly will be in Tier 1, which means no club in English league football will be allowed more than 2,000 fans.
