Peterborough v Bolton: Goals and Stats

|

Bolton Wanderers ended pre-season with a respectable win over Peterborough United, with Wanderers winning by two goals to nil over the Posh.

We played the team that will likely start at West Brom next week, for what it’s worth I’d like Erhun Oztumer to come in for one of the strikers, I’m not sure we could get away playing 4-4-2 away at the Hawthorns. The performance was capped by a wonder goal from Sammy Ameobi, his shot from range hitting the woodwork on the way in, which is always more satisfying. Adam Le Fondre had opened the scoring but Ben Alnwick was forced into making a few saves on his return to London Road.

Our last three pre-season games might serve as a cautionary tale as to how our season could go. Against Girona and yesterday, we went as strong as possible and got two good results. Against Guiseley, we were without a few players. We were beaten. This season’s strongest XI may be stronger than last term’s, there’s a player in midfield who should be more composed on the ball, a genuine attacking midfielder if Oztumer is used, and pace from Wildschut. But if we lose just a few players, to injuries or whatever, we’re going to be without a paddle, unless players are signed quickly.

Bolton starting lineup: Alnwick; Olkowski, Beevers, Wheater, Taylor; Ameobi, Lowe, Vela, Wildschut; Donaldson, Le Fondre

Bolton Subs:

Wildschut replaced by Noone (72)
Ameobi replaced by Oztumer (80)
Le Fondre replaced by Buckley (80)
Donaldson replaced by Hall (85)
