We`re not ones to dredge up the past on Vital Bolton. Actually, that`s a lie. We are. Especially, if there`s a juicy headline in it. Today`s Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp, has a bit of previous, regarding Wanderers fans.

In 1995, Redknapp was the manager at West Ham, when they claimed a 3-0 victory at Burnden Park (Bolton’s former home). He claimed that fans in the Manchester Road Terrace were a tad unkind to him.

‘Blimey! I’ve never heard so much abuse on the touchline,` said honest ‘Arry.

‘These fans are wicked. They are the worst I’ve ever heard since I’ve been around football. What makes people behave like that?

‘As soon as we sat down, we were were being called effing dirty so-and-sos. We hadn’t even started. That’s not what football’s about, surely.

‘We go to Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and you have a laugh and a bit of banter with the fans but you couldn’t have a laugh with that lot sitting behind the bench. It was frightening, horrible.`

Some might say the last two words of that sentence, describe Mr Redknapp. Not us of course. We`re far too nice for that.
