Reflecting on West Ham

Anelka, Diouf and Davies all scored – that must be the biggest plus of the game. The interplay between the three of them was superb. OK – it was against a poor and inexperienced West Ham defensive line but you’ve got to punish teams when they’re playing badly. Davies took his goals well, Dioufy sold an outrageous dummy on the way to scoring his goal and Anelka looked sharp throughout and showed a great touch to lift the ball over Green. The only downside was Dioufy being booked again which means he misses the Villa game.

As for the rest of the team, Campo and Speed were excellent. 500 games and counting for our resident Welsh supermodel. His pass for the fourth goal was sublime. Nolan showed signs of getting back to form too.

At the back, the four defenders didn’t have much to do but what they did, they did well. And Jussi had one of his quietest games ever.

It was nice to see Ricky Gardner back on the pitch again. He hardly looked like a player who hasn’t played for 7 months.

Lots of positives in the game even within the context of who we were playing. West Ham were poor but we did well. It would have been easy for West Ham to have come to the Reebok and to have spoilt the game. They didn’t. They meekly surrendered instead.
