Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel was delighted Johan Elmander got a goal in the win over Middlesbrough and talks about getting one over on his old Aston Villa team-mate Gareth Southgate.

“We were delighted to take three points from the weekend’s game against Middlesbrough. After losing at home to Liverpool it was just what we needed and I was made up to see [Johan] Elmander getting on the scoresheet.

“I know Boro’s manager, Gareth Southgate, very well from my time at Aston Villa. He wasn’t one of the players I hung out with but I looked up to him a lot. When I was much younger and coming up through the youth system he was always on hand to give me advice and he was always there to talk to. He was a great player and he was captain of the side so I had a lot of respect for him. He was the consummate professional.”
