A look at our League Cup second round opponents

Tuesday sees us play Wednesday. Confused? Don`t be. We`re playing Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, and to help us learn about the Owls, we spoke to Vital Wednesday`s Greg Pursehouse.

It is still early but overall, what do you make of your season so far?

A very mixed bunch of results but it clearly reflects what is happening in the Championship, who’d have thought Ipswich near the top and Fulham one point off the relegation zone? Turning back to the mighty Owls lots of fans have been underwhelmed both in the transfer market and in the results. Ofsted verdict; requires improvement!

How do you reckon the Owls will approach this fixture? Will it be a strong side or do you envisage changes?

Exciting approach to this fixture! Pressure is off Carlos Carvalhal a bit now we had our first league win of the season against Fulham. Will be a blend of youth and experience, especially those that need match fitness / to remember where the back of the net is! Wildsmith will deputise in goal for Keiran Westwood who deserves a rest! All of the fans truly hope that Carlos gives our young gun superstar George Hirst a run out! The son of legendary SWFC striker David Hirst, he scored 40 goals for club and country last season!

Is there one Sheffield Wednesday in particular to look out for?

Would be nice to see our new centre back Frederico Venancio make his debut if international clearance allows. If Fernando Forestieri gets a start he should have a field day; he owes the fans a performance and a half!

Barry Bannan, at least in my opinion, had a decent loan spell with us. How do rate him over at Hillsborough?

Last season good, this season outstanding! He has come back firing all guns blazing. The engine shed of the team, a lot of fans were questioning his selection going into this season but in the absence of Kieren Lee he has made himself undropable.

Finally, a score prediction?

Naturally a 5-0 win to the Owls, well that’s what the heart says! The head says more like a 2-1 to the Owls. I know the Owls fans will give a good reception to former players Beevers and washing machine, I mean goal machine Gary Madine (as long as he doesn’t score against us!) Also Will Buckley, whose loan spell didn’t work out at SWFC as he wasn’t suited to our style of play.
