The Premiership’s longest serving player is looking forward to taking his present club into the biggest club competition in the world.

‘If you look at the league, I think there is two or three points separating nine teams below Manchester and Chelsea’.

‘It’s very tight there, so whoever gets a good run of results could actually get that third or fourth spot on their own’.

Sensible as always, Speed is anticipating an important game on Saturday.

‘It starts with Reading – these are the games we want to be winning.

‘In a way, they are more important than the Chelsea games or the Arsenal games. It’s those kinds of games that we need to be winning.’

It would be a very proud moment for such a top professional to be playing in such a competiton at the end of a great career.
