If someone comes knocking on Big Sam’s door and offers him £2M for Stelios, he should sit them down, give them a drink and get them to sign the contract there and then.

It’s rumoured that Stelios is a £2M target for Newcastle. At that money, for a player of Stelios’s age, it would be the right thing for Bolton to say ‘thanks very much’ and pass him over. Although only appearing in fits and starts this season, the little Greek is coming to the end of his usefulness. Never blessed with pace, he has always relied on trickery and determination.

Assuming Anelka, Davies and Diouf stay injury free, he won’t get in the first team. The forward triumvirate have already shown what they can do when they’re all on form.

He’s played 138 times for Bolton and has scored 24 goals, not a bad return for a midfielder.

It just feels like the right time for him to go. Obviously, this will open happen if Big Sam can find the right replacement.
