Takeovers and A Scouse Connection: Wigan Scouting Report

|

Saturday sees us take on that lot along the road, so let’s go behind enemy lines and see what Wigan are up to these days…

New owners

This is the first time we have played Wigan since the Whelan family relinquished control of the club earlier in the month. After months and months of explaining to them how he broke his leg in an FA Cup final, Dave Whelan eventually sold the club to Hong Kong-based investors.

Their season so far

Better than ours, having won promotion last season, they made an excellent start which had slowed down in recent weeks, but they’ll come to us off the back of beating Blackburn 3-1, leaving them a healthy seven points clear of the drop zone.

The manager

Paul Cook is in his second season after winning promotion at the first time of asking, there were some rumours about his future after the takeover, with Joe Royle joining the club and sounds about David Unsworth joining from Everton’s Under-23s, but that has gone quiet for now. It would have been hilarious anyway.

Players to watch

Antonee Robinson ended up there after impressing for us last season. Nick Powell has been their strongest performer, topping both the goals and assists stats with four of each.
