It’s league cup action for Bolton tonight as we travel to lower league opponents.

Bolton just did enough to see off league 2 outfit Bury in the first round, a second round league cup meeting with league 1 strugglers Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road tonight was the reward.

Crewe could recall Liam Nolan due loanee midfielder Jamie Ness struggling and expected to miss out. Ryan Colclough (hip), Harry Davis (knee) and Thierry Audel (shoulder) are all expected to miss out too.

Late fitness tests will be given to ‘keeper Adam Bogdan (eye), after his injury on Saturday, and Kevin McNaughton (hamstring).

Dougie Freedman will be without Mark Davies again though as well as Marc Tierney and Sanmi Odelusi as he seeks for some comfort in the league cup again as the pressure continues to grow on his after another poor start to the championship season.

Lower league exits in the league cup, to sides from Crewe’s level, have become commonplace with this the case in the past two seasons! Third time luck for Wanderers?

Mr Ecky and Nicky Crompton are still, for now, having a staff writer to help fill in!
