There was something not quite right about the first bit of last season and it took a while to realise what it was. It wasn`t being bottom of the table. It wasn`t having Chucky as team manager. It wasn`t even the jaw droppingly awful Gerald Cid at centre back. No, it was the realisation that we could no longer laugh at Manchester City.

The massive club down the road have been the deserved butt of jokes for years, but they`d got a decent manager, money to spend and played some neat football early doors. It was all very disappointing.

Fortunately, the break in hilarity has been brief. Football fans can once more giggle at the occupants of the world`s biggest council house, and it`s all down to one man. Thaksin Shinawatra raised a few laughs when he decided to publicly sack the man who guided City to their best finish for years, but he`s topped that easily. According to the Daily Express, he`s now going to sell the entire squad. Not just the duffers, but the whole shebang. There may be discounts for bulk buyers. Clearly the man`s a comic genius. He`ll probably put them on E-Bay.

Thaksin Shinawatra, we salute you.

Note: Thaksin Shinawatra has since denied the story and issued a statement on City’s official site, which we’re happy to reproduce here.

‘There is absolutely no truth to this story or any of the allegations. I appreciate the progress and performance of the whole squad, managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, this season.’

Bugger. We were going to offer them twenty quid for Martin Petrov.

  • And I, Richard, am having a good old giggle at your expense!!!! Shinawtra has released a club statement regarding this tosh story that appeared in the Express. Try logging on to City’s official website and read the piece for yourself. Oh by, the way, we’re in the UEFA cup next season too. Well done for avoiding the drop by one point a bit of goal difference. One final bit of advice… DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOUR READ!!!!!

  • Only a City fan could brag about getting into Europe via the fair play league. No doubt you’ll be hoping to avoid Groclin this time.

  • Snout… Wasn’t bragging, just stating FACT! With so much rumour doing the rounds I was merely pointing out the official club statement, whilst adding the UEFA cup spot, which is again FACT! Not rumour. Understand now?

  • “Bugger. We were going to offer them twenty quid for Martin Petrov.”

I do a lot of work with Bolton FC – there isn’t twenty quid spare – shame.

  • FrankieW… City finished 18 points ahead of BW. That’s bragging! There’s a difference between stating fact and bragging. Do you not understand that?

  • I understand that you’re happy. For the first time in five years Massive Man City have finished above little Bolton. But let’s face it, you’ve finished mid-table, which is shameful, given what you?ve spent. That’s stating a fact. Do you not understand that?

  • FrankieW… Spending money doesn’t guarantee anything! It helps. Incidentally, does the ‘W’ in your username rhyme with the first part???
