The Latest Prospective Bolton Owner Seems Best Avoided

|

This is not some wonderful piece of investigative journalism, all of this and the relevant sources can be looked up on the man’s Wikipedia page.

So, Laurence Bassini is the latest name linked with a takeover of Bolton Wanderers. He may be a familiar name to some, he was the Watford owner before selling up to current custodians, the Pozzo family.

But a look at his past makes your heart sink. He has endured bankruptcy, twice in fact. After the first occasion he even changed his name from Bazini to Bassini, because that apparently would be a “fresh start.” While Hornets owner, he divided staff, paid staff late, and at one point demanded keys to the club safe were handed over, and called the police when that order was ignored.

Even a few years down from leaving Watford, he was still losing a High Court battle, owing £3.5million to former directors. After Watford lost the 2013 Championship play-off final to Crystal Palace, he then sent gloating messages to the local paper mocking the defeat. He was until 2016, banned from holding a position of any influence in an EFL club.

Seems exactly what we need at this time…
