It`s a familiar sight. Steven Gerrard gets challenged. Steven Gerrard goes down. The ethics of the midfielder have been questioned, but ahead of Bolton`s game with Liverpool at the weekend, startling information has been revealed about his medical condition.

Gerrard is suffering from Vestibular Neuritis, a condition which causes dizziness and balance problems. This can result in a single attack of vertigo, a series of attacks, or a persistent condition which lasts several weeks. The England vice captain has a rare variant of the disease, which is triggered every time he enters the penalty area.

So the next time you feel the need to leap from your seat and accuse him of being a cheating, diving, scouse runt (or a similar word) have a bit of consideration. The boy`s not well.

Note : The involuntary raising of the right arm, just before Stevie hits the turf, and the twisting of the neck so that his face points toward the referee have yet to be explained. Doctors think it may be a form of Tourettes. Either that, or he`s related to Jack Douglas.
