Three Stay on at Bolton While Three Depart

|

Bolton Wanderers announced the futures of six players this morning, three of them to be kept on, while three players depart the club.

They’re largely the right decisions as well. Aaron Wilbraham will be released, while that goal against Forest was one of the best memories we’ll have, he scored only one other goal, and he isn’t getting any younger. Neither are Darren Pratley and Karl Henry, Pratley has split opinion over the course of his seven seasons with us. Sometimes he has been good, sometimes he has been awful. He was okay this season but it’s the right time to move on. Henry had a good season, but hopefully, this signals a move towards a younger midfield where someone can actually pass a ball.

Meanwhile, David Wheater, Mark Beevers and Connor Hall have all had their contracts extended by another year. Wheater staying was no surprise, and while the question of new captain isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things, he would get the armband if I got to make the decision. Beevers also stays at the club, which keeps the usual centre-back pairing together, while Hall’s exploits for the Under-23s have been mercifully rewarded. Hopefully, this will see the striker involved more with the first team squad this season.

Now, we just wait for Sammy Ameobi. What’s happening with him? Will he sign a new deal?
