So after weeks of rumours it is finally official and Bolton Wanderers have announced the loan signing of Craig Dawson from West Bromwich Albion on a three month loan deal.

Dawson is primarily a centre half who is also useful in midfield having captained Rochdale to promotion from that position. He is being brought in on a loan basis to help strengthen what has, so far, been a troublesome position for the Whites with neither Ream, Knight, Ricketts or Mills providing much comfort for watching fans with their performances.

He is also a regular for the England U21 side having made ten appearances – scoring an impressive five goals. He represented Team GB at the London Olympic Backslapping Festival 2012 with distinction.

His career began in the local leagues, where he starred for Radcliffe Borough of the Northern Premier League. He immediately took to professional football like a duck to water and was soon appointed captain. His performances led to a move to Rochdale of League Two where again his performances merited the awarding of the armband soon after joining in 2008.

It was in 2009 that he came to wider attention as a goal scoring midfielder, managing ten in the season before his departure for the Midlands. He joined WBA for a fee believed to be £500,000 and was immediately loaned back to Rochdale for the season.

His time at WBA has been stop-start thus far, with appearances mainly coming in cup games and with the England U21 lads.

He is known to be a dedicated professional, a teetotaller much like Owen Coyle and someone completely devoted to the game. From what I know of him he should definitely bring about a new focus to the back line and his ability to play in midfield will be an added bonus should the need arise.

Dawson is highly rated at The Hawthorns and it is believed that the manager, Steve Clarke, is extremely unwilling to let him leave on a permanent basis, so Wanderers’ time with Dawson in the ranks is unlikely to go much further than May. However it is hoped that he can help us climb the table quickly though he will be cup-tied for the game against Everton this weekend.
