Weirdly Quiet Final Day For Bolton, But Not For The Opposition…

|

It might still be April, but somehow, it’s the final game of the season tomorrow…

And for us this will be the most normal final game of the season for years. We aren’t going down or up, there’s no possibility of either, the season has actually been completed and fans aren’t locked out because of the pandemic, nor are any players on strike because a rat of a former owner hasn’t paid them.

So we host Fleetwood with a probable 10th place finish locked in. We could move up or down a place, but that’s about it. The opposition on the other hand, do have something to play for, but Ian Evatt seems determined to not let them have their moment.

Team news

MJ Williams broke his hand last week so will miss out tomorrow, while none of the long term injured players will be risked. There probably won’t be too much in terms of changes, but it would be nice to see Alex Baptiste get at least a few minutes, if it is to be his last game for Bolton. He was huge for us last season.

Possible XI: Trafford; Jones, Aimson, Johnston; Sadlier, Dempsey, Morley, John; Afolayan; Charles, Bodvarsson

Last time

We’ve already hosted Fleetwood this season. We met in the first knockout round of the EFL Trophy in November, with a team a lot different to the one that will probably turn out tomorrow. Kieran Lee scored the only goal of the game as we frankly scraped through to the next round, where we promptly lost to Hartlepool.

The opposition

As mentioned, while this is a dead rubber for us, it certainly is not the case for Fleetwood. Stephen Crainey’s men aren’t safe, only above Gillingham on goal difference. If they match the Gills’ result (they host Rotherham) they will stay up. Young striker Ged Garner is one to watch having scored seven goals this term, while left back Danny Andrew is a danger from set pieces.

Prediction

A narrow Bolton win, while we played them when we were at our lowest point of the season, our results this season have been a narrow home win and a heavy away defeat, and they are playing for their lives, so they could make it quite hard. Having said that, we should have enough to beat them. 2-1.
