Were Bolton Wrong to Dump Dzemaili?

There are numerous words to describe Bolton`s midfield. Many of them can`t appear on a site that can be viewed by minors. ‘Uninspiring` is probably the best of those that can.

Mark Davies, who has made a hopeful start after his transfer from Wolves won`t feature much again this season and Chris Basham, who is in the process of contract negotiations is also injured. Gavin McCann is fit, although many wish he wasn`t. The Badger can be a highly effective player on his day, but there haven`t been many of those recently. Fabrice Muamba occasionally looks like he might have the making of a good player, but most of the time he`s bloody awful and Ricardo Gardner is in poor form after shining earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Wanderers exile, Blerim Dzemaili currently on loan at Torino is said have impressed in Serie ‘A`. The Swiss international will be out of contract in the summer, so he has effectively left the Reebok. Given the lack of options in the middle of the park, was Gary Megson wrong to let him go?

Not that Dzemaili performed impressively in Bolton colours. In one senior and several reserve team appearances, he struggled to adapt to the English game. The only time he looked anything like the real deal was in a pre-season match at non-league Chorley, but then that was the first time that he had been fully fit since joining the club – a cruciate ligament injury effectively wrote off his first season.

Despite giving 100% in that game, which was played in sweltering conditions, it was made clear to Dzemaili that he had no future at Bolton and he left with a mixture of relief and resentment.

‘I still have contact with a few directors and teammates, but I am still angry with Bolton and don`t want to think about them any more,` he told Channel 4`s Blog Italia, shortly after his departure.

The comments may seem ungrateful, because time and resources were spent on his recovery before he`d played a single minute, but the player clearly feels that he wasn`t given a fair chance after returning to match fitness and it`s a sentiment that is shared by a sizeable contingent of Bolton supporters.

What do you think? Was Dzemaili dumped in haste or did the Ginger One make the right call? Vote in the latest Vital Bolton poll.
