Bolton Wanderers are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after the Boxing Day festive action.

The performance by David Wheater in the two one victory over Shrewsbury Town on Monday at the Macron Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Wheater was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Wheater was the key man for Bolton, who moved within two points of the Sky Bet League One leaders with victory over Shrewsbury Town. The central defender scored twice inside half an hour, seeing the Trotters to a 2-1 success.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Wheater for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Adam Davies (Barnsley), Scott Laird (Walsall), David Wheater (Bolton Wanderers), Jacob Bedeau (Bury), Luke Ayling (Leeds United), Billy Bodin (Bristol Rovers), Sam Hutchinson (Sheffield Wednesday), Gavin Massey (Leyton Orient), Simon Cox (Southend United), Ian Henderson (Rochdale), Lee Gregory (Millwall).

Manager – Paul Cook (Portsmouth).
