David Wheater wins the Vital Bolton award

David Wheater has been voted the winner of the 2016-17 Vital Bolton Player of the Season Award.

The defender has had a superb season in the heart of our defence, and was the overwhelming choice in the reader poll, taking 58% of all votes cast over the last few days.

He has been with the club since 2011, but had been released last summer before returning to the Macron on reduced terms. He has helped the side to promotion, also developing a knack of scoring goals too.

Jay Spearing came second in the vote with 20%, Gary Madine third with 15%, Wheater`s defensive partner in crime Mark Beevers got 5% while Josh Vela got 2%.

All five players have done well to get on the list, and other players have pitched in with good performances over the campaign, but congratulations to David Wheater!
