Bolton went out of the League Trophy after succumbing to a very late Amari Morgan-Smith penalty in a 1-0 defeat.

Wanderers needed some sort of win to get through, but Cheltenham were better early on and Chris Taylor had to clear off the line.

It was an experimental Bolton team, with a different formation from normal and starts for both Keshi Anderson and Jamie Proctor.

Taylor nearly then made the difference at the other end, but his diving header was kept out by the Robins keeper.

Bolton then got into the game, as Taylor had another effort saved then a Jamie Proctor shot was cleared off the line.

There were more chances for us in the second half, with Anderson heading wide, and Proctor wriggling through but he couldn’t sort his feet out.

A penalty shout for James Henry was waved away late on before Cheltenham got theirs, Ben Alnwick clipping down Morgan-Smith, coming off the bench to score the winner.

Ah well. It’s a Mickey Mouse Cup anyway
