Bolton ended the year with a huge win as James Henry decisively struck deep into injury time to sink promotion rivals Scunthorpe.

Chasing a 10th successive home win in all competitions, Wanderers took the lead as Josh Vela struck from distance to beat Luke Daniels and give the hosts the lead.

Scunthorpe were as dangerous as any side to visit us this season, no surprise given the amount of goals they’ve scored, and had a goal disallowed for offside.

Neal Bishop was influential in the Iron’s play and it was he who scored the leveller, swivelling to lash home a loose ball at a corner.

On the back foot at that point, Bolton then became more proactive than they have been when closing out games, and deep into the six minutes of injury time, substitute James Henry burst through and his shot deflected off a defender and into the net, sending limbs everywhere.
