Bolton Lose At London Road

Bolton lost their first league game in over a month as they went down 1-0 away to Peterborough.

Perhaps it was that damned Manager of the Month curse again. Phil Parkinson picked up his second award in three months the other day, and after we endured a winless September off him taking the August gong, we went on to put in a pretty turgid performance today.

Bolton suffered an early blow as Mark Howard had to come off with a hand injury. This meant Ben Alnwick, who joined Wanderers on deadline day from Peterborough, came on, to a frosty reception from the home fans. Presume they took his departure well then…

Posh had been the better side though, and the only goal of the game came through full back Michael Smith just before the half hour mark, with a long distance strike.

It was a great goal, but questions were raised of Alnwick, such to the point where he was mocked by the PA announcer at half time. I can only assume this is the greatest moment in Peterborough’s history.

Josh Vela then blocked a Michael Bostwick shot towards the end of the half, and midway through the second half, Vela, who was playing deeper than in recent weeks, had a penalty shout turned down after the ball seemingly hit a Posh hand.

Chris Forrester could have put the game beyond doubt after a counter-attack. He rounded Alnwick but took too much time and Lawrie Wilson was able to keep it at 1-0.

Chris Taylor’s introdution had sparked a little bit of life. He linked up well with Liam Trotter but Taylor could just not keep a shot down.

With Sheffield United’s win in the Ched Evans Derby, Bolton drop to fourth in the league.
