Bolton would be ultimately disappointed yesterday. While we would have probably all taken a point prior to the start of the game at Fulham, after all, we never win at Fulham and never win away in the Championship, to come so close to actually breaking both those ducks and beating them, only for Tom Cairney to pop up and equalise during the six minutes of injury time somehow conjured up by the officials, was gutting,
Wanderers had to a lot of defending yesterday. Fulham regularly got down the flanks, with Floyd Ayite looking dangerous, while on the other side, Kamara, or AK47 as he called himself, fired a blank.
The home side had 75% of the possession in the first half, which increased to 77% by the end of the game, but when Bolton got the ball they were efficient at creating chances. We took the lead when Sammy Ameobi turned well and registering his second goal in three games. Having broken the goal drought, he also scored our first away goal since Filipe Morais` free kick at Millwall in August. Earlier in the half, Ayite had put the ball in the back of the net, but the flag had gone up for offside.
As the game went on though, we got under the cosh more and more. Unless it was a fitness thing, it was quite surprising to see Ameobi being taken off midway through the second half, then late on, Josh Vela was replaced by Adam Le Fondre. It was a ballsy move, and maybe the thinking was to try and push out and get one last break, but in the end it backfired when Cairney eventually broke the Wanderers rearguard, led all afternoon by David Wheater.
The gap to fourth bottom has been cut ever so slightly again, to four points (this has been written before Birmingham`s match against Aston Villa). If we win at Sunderland though, we`ll be off the bottom. Scenes.
