Ah well. It would be nice to have had a Cup run, but at the same time, we played a Premier League team, and lost narrowly. It`s not the end of the world. The most annoying part of the game would have been Huddersfield`s second goal, not only the fact it came seconds after the first one, but also the tackle on David Wheater, of which the damage didn`t look good at all. Play should have been stopped for that, but it sounds as if Roger East missed a lot of things yesterday.
Phil Parkinson did rotate in the end, a first-choice back four aside. Aaron Wilbraham and Derik got rare starts, Adam Le Fondre was also up front in a switch to a 4-4-2, while Connor Hall would get a debut off the bench, with Jeff King also getting some game time. Unsurprisingly, the visitors controlled most of the first half, but shots were few and far between, and we had the best chance of the half, when Wilbraham somehow managed to make a free-header seven yards out look like a passable impression of a defensive clearance, such was its lack of troubling the goal. If only Gary Madine was in that position. If only I was in that position?
Huddersfield took the tie away from us early in the second half, Rajiv van La Parra nipped in to score the opener from close range, before Danny Williams effort from 30 yards hit Wheater, and beat Mark Howard, but not before that horrible challenge.
Derik didn`t seem to be rated by a few people who were able to see the game, but he did get on the scoresheet with a header which set the game up nicely, but in the end, we couldn`t force a replay. Now, it`s time to forget about it, move on, and concentrate on staying up.
