Bolton went into the automatic promotion places as they ntched up another win and another clean sheet, dealing with Northampton this time around.

It’s becoming a template now, a very effective template. Almost impenettable at the back, (two goals conceded in the last nine games) then let one or two skilled players do the damage.

Today it was Zach Clough who scored the goal. Midway through the first half, Sammy Ameobi played through Clough with a lovely ball and Clough timed his shot past David Cornell perfectly.

Marc Richards did find a way past Ben Alnwick in the second half, but the flag went up for offside.

Similar to Tuesday night’s game, Bolton had to hang on a bit in the second half, although not nearly to the same extent. Sam Hoskins, ex-Wanderer Matt Taylor, John-Joe O’Toole, and Richards all had chances, but Alnwick was on top form again, as was the defence who blocked and scrambled away when needed.
