Bolton lost their first league game of the season and fell off the top of League one with a loss at Walsall, despite playing most of the game with a man advantage.

Wanderers were poor, and perhaps the sending off of Joe Edwards for an obvious elbow probably worked against them. Once Walsall took the lead, they could dig in and make life tough for Wanderers, and they did just that, with some.good saves from Neil Etheridge and some great ability from Erhun Oztumer.

The goal came from a free kick. An horrendous mixup between Mark Howard and David Wheater and allowed Jason McCarthy to score.

Bolton had an effort cleared off the line straight after, and they were on the front foot for large parts of the secind half, but it was a frustrating afternoon, compounded by a second yellow card for substitute Keshi Anderson, who was initially booked for coming on too quickly.
