The Genius of the Bolton News

You can always rely on the Bolton News. To get things wrong. Today it`s the revelation that midfielder Mikel Alonso is set to leave in the summer.

`Alonso, who joined Wanderers from the Spanish club Racing Santander last summer, is rumoured to be a £600,000 target for promotion chasing Hull City,` writes Gordon Sharrock. He may well be, but as the Spaniard is on loan, there will be no financial reward for Bolton Wanderers. There won`t be for Racing Santander either. The player came from Real Sociedad.

It`s not the first time that poor old Gordon`s got a bit confused. Earlier in the season he reported that Abdoulaye Faye was playing in the Carling Cup against Fulham. This was something as a shock as he`d been transferred to Newcastle days previously. It was of course Abdoulaye Meite, who will be on his way out at the end of the season. Gordon will be quite relieved.

Not that getting things wrong is limited to the town`s newspaper. ‘Zolton to bide his time` claims the official site. It helps if you can get the name of the player right. One hopes that Zoltan Harsanyi is equally patient with rubbish web site editors.

However, cock up of the week came from the Guardian. On Saturday, according to them, Bolton lost to Arsenal and Manchester United.

No wonder the fans are depressed.
