Ahead of the clash with Besiktas tonight, Big Sam has called for the players to show sense and not be intimidated by the hostile atmosphere.

‘I think if memory serves me well they will get a full house, which will be good for our players. The atmosphere will be tense and exciting and we hope we can use that as a motivational tool.’

However:

‘If we do score a goal then we have told the players to celebrate as you have to celebrate every goal you score, but they should keep it within the field of play and not try to incite or intimidate the crowd.’

Gordon Milne is expected to take the managerial seat for Besiktas after their coach Riza Calimbay resigned on Monday.

‘Being English, he will know how we play and I’m sure he’ll have a say in their preparation, sometimes it can work against you when a manager goes because players want to impress, but I think it is a good time to play them.’
