Bolton Hit Rock Bottom

Despite recent improvements in both results and performances, a section of Bolton fans are still vehemently opposed to Gary Megson continuing as Bolton manager. One individual even rang the BBC`s 606 programme to slag the man off after the Wanderers had thrashed Sunderland 4-1 away from home. Bizarre.

We`ve been as critical of the Ginger One as anybody, but the Whites are showing improvement and it is only fair to acknowledge that. They lie in mid table, with a handy five-point cushion between them and the relegation places and the last two victories on the road have been emphatic. Yet some supporters are still verging on the hysterical in their desire to see the back of the manager.

It`s all Mark Lawrenson`s fault. The ex-Liverpool defender bet his moustache that Bolton would be relegated in the 2001-2 season. He lost and still appears to bear a grudge. Lawrenson is famed for the inaccuracy of his pre-match predictions, but even by his standards, he`s been wide of the mark this season. If the man with the bare lip had been correct, then Bolton would be languishing at the foot of the table with six points, having won just one game. Clearly, some supporters are looking at Lawro`s predictions, instead of the real results.
