Bolton Player of the Season

Vote for your Player of the Season here.

It was an awful season for Bolton on and off the field, and if I put her on the ballot I’m pretty sure Hillary Stonefrost would win by a landslide.

But I’m not, and here I’ve nominated four players. Voting closes on Thursday night at 10.30, so crack on.

Mark Davies
A nomination that might not go down well with a lot of people, granted. He has been inconsistent. He seems to play better when the Sky Sports cameras are in town. But he’s a lot better on the ball than a lot of our central midfielders, hardly gave it away (an 88.5% pass success rate if you’re into that stuff) and has caused problems at times.

Rob Holding
If he doesn’t get this, I’ll be giving him the Young Player of the Year award anyway. Academy product Holding didn’t come into the first team until the game away at Hull in December, but his breakthrough is one of the very few genuine positives about the season. However, it increasingly seems as though his Bolton career will be a very short one, with reported Premier League interest.

Jay Spearing
Didn’t play after early March as we owed Liverpool money if he was to put on the white shirt (or an away or third at that) again. After spending time out on loan in the 2014/15 campaign he seemed to prduce something closer to his early form when he got on the pitch. Scored a couple of goals too, which is Messiesque by our standards…

David Wheater
This man would get my vote. Has struggled with injuries and had some lengthy spells out, but when he has been fit has performed strongly. He has been important in the last few weeks of the season, being the elder statesman in some young back lines, as the likes of Threlkeld, Garratt, Maher and Finney have all been blooded.

As ever, feel free to comment, who would you pick? Would you nominate anyone else?
