Bolton Sign Big Defender After A Spell In Norway

|

Bolton made their tenth signing of the summer, fourth of the week and the second today.

The latest arrival is Reiss Greenidge, a  24 year-old centre-back.

Greenidge was in the academy at both Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion. English football hadn’t really worked out for him, unable to get a game in league football, eventually playing for Ebbsfleet and Hemel Hempstead. He went to Norway in the summer of 2017, where he played for top flight club Sogndal, before dropping to the third tier where he had been playing for Arendal, who for that league had a bit of money.

Greenidge has trained with Wanderers with a few weeks, which inspires a little more confidence in the signing as it should have given Ian Evatt time to look at him before committing to a decision, as his career trajectory isn’t too impressive, with only 19 appearances in the Eliteserien the only thing to really stand out. But Evatt has obviously liked what he has seen. He’s 6ft6, like yesterday’s signing Ricardo Santos, so we should at least not be worried about being bullied by other sides.

Added to the physical presence, he is also very quick, and while it isn’t real life, whoever has done the scouting on Football Manager likes his decision making abilities.

Like fellow signing Liam Gordon, he is a Guyana international. Greenidge is one of those signings we’ll really get to learn about once we can see him, after a four year spell abroad let’s hope he finally can be a success in English football.
