Bolton won their final home game of the season yesterday as Stephen Dobbie’s second half goal gave Wanderers a victory over playoff-bound Hull City.

The Whites’ big chance of the first half fell to Darren Pratley, who was just six yards from goal but still managed to find himself being denied by goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, before Zach Clough’s effort was blocked.

The captain then did himself few favours farcically going over in the penalty area when anyone could see he hadn’t been touched.

Hull went close as well, with Chuba Akpom heading wide, then Robert Snodgrass hitting the bar just before halftime.

Bolton should have had a goal early in the second half, as an effort appeared to be headed over the line by Michael Dawson for what would have been an own goal. Other chances followed, as Akpom then hit the woodwork from 12 yards at the other end.

Then came our goal. Stephen Dobbie, on as a substitute, tapped in from close range after a cross was delivered superbly by Lawrie Wilson, only on the pitch himself as Josh Vela pulled up pre-match.

It ended a two and half month winless run, Bolton were the better side, and although nobody could argue against the fact this season has been dire, those three points did mean people could leave the ground in a more positive mindframe.
