Choose your Player of the Month on our poll

April was a dark month for Wanderers as our relegation to the third tier for the first time in over 20 years was sealed.

Some players have put in a few decent performances though, especially since demotion was confirmed, and some of the younger players were given a fairer crack of the whip.

I’ve nominated four players for the shortlist. I’ve tried to go for players who have played both in quantity and quality; Maher, Threlkeld and Garratt have all been excellent but have only played a proportion of the games. So here are the nominees…

Ben Amos
A funny month, but in most games has generally made a few saves each time, plus a penalty save from Matej Vydra in the home against Reading. Has been let down by shots from distance though

Zach Clough
Has had a tough time of late, but in recent weeks things have started to turn again for Clough. Having never scored away from home, penalties in successive games at Brentford and Derby broke that duck, then scored for the third away day on the bounce with a lovely free kick at Cardiff. Has been more involved in general play too.

Derik
The Spaniard hadn’t exactly disgraced himself when he got the opportunity to play this season, but the positional change has benefitted him. And we do like an ex Real Madrid player with big hair being moved from centre back into central midfield. I don’t think there is a precedent here, right?

David Wheater
Has gone from zero, to sort of hero. The month started awfully as he and Liam Trotter were the stars of Periscopegate. Since then though, has recovered from injury and been a vital old head guiding backlines usually comprised of academy graduates through games. If he hadn’t been on the pitch at Derby, we’d have let in eight or nine.

You can vote using the poll on this page or across the site. The winner will be announced on Friday morning. Feel free to comment on who you think deserves the award
