Bolton v Sheffield United Preview: There Will Be Goals

|

Bolton round off a successful August tomorrow when they take on Sheffield United at home – hoping to make it five games unbeaten.

Team news

Gary O’Neil has a groin strain and will be given until tomorrow lunchtime to determine whether he can play. Otherwise, Wanderers should have no new injury concerns. Joe Williams could be available having joined on loan yesterday.

Sheffield United are missing Kean Bryan and George Baldock but Mark Duffy has recovered from illness.

Opposition player to watch

Oliver Norwood – The Northern Irish midfielder can strike a ball, you may remember him scoring a goal from range for Huddersfield at the Reebok a few years back. He was on loan at Fulham from Brighton last season as they won promotion. He is currently on loan at Bramall Lane and played well against Norwich on debut last week, with the deal to be made permanent in January.

Stats

Bolton’s home defeat to the Blades last September was their first since 1977. The last time we lost to them at home twice in succession was 1898.

There hasn’t been a goalless draw between us in the league since 1969. Three of the last four league encounters have finished 1-0 either way, however.

If Bolton win tomorrow it’ll be their fourth of the season before August has finished. Last season, our fourth win came on 23rd December.

Bolton have won one and drawn one of their home games so far. Sheffield United have won one and lost one of their away games.

Prediction

This will probably be tight, Sheffield United didn’t play in midweek so could be fresher later. But I fancy us to keep it going. 2-1.

Next games

We play Preston away next weekend, then host QPR after the international break.
