I’m back. . .

Howdy.

This is my first article in quite some time and my first as a regular fixture for Vital Bolton. If you haven’t read my stuff before, I’m fairly optimistic about the club, where we are going and strongly believe that last year was a blip, albeit the hugest blip in the history of blips. We have well and truly missed the meatiest of gravy trains.

So the club announced a couple of weeks ago that the total raised for the Nat Lofthouse Memorial Fund stood at a grand total of £35,000. £35k, including a sizeable contribution from the Lofthouse family themselves.

35k? For Nat Lofthouse, The Lion of Vienna, The single biggest legend in Bolton Wanderers’ history? That’s ridiculous.

£35,000 is how much Mr Sean Davis earned a week for the last three years, whilst putting his feet up and holding his knee whenever anyone checked on him. £35,000 is less than the cost of 100 adult season tickets for the Reebok next season.

It is a paltry amount in the football world, dwarfed by the £3 million pounds we paid Watford for a certain striker to change his Twitter bio and moan at our fans for four months. It’s dwarfed by the £1 we paid Coventry for the pleasure of having a Nandos-chomping bloater sit in the reserves for years before he decided to permanently holiday in the Algarve. My point is, in football, 35k is jack.

We need to do better than this, Bolton. We need something great, something truly fit to remember the man. And if you can’t spare a couple of quid, please, please harass those lovely Wanderers players on the old Twitter until that fund is looking a little less like loose change. And Emma, we can’t miss out Emma.

With regards to today’s news, we appear to have signed Joe McKee, a youngster released by Burnley at the end of last season. That’s all I know about him so far. Watch this space I suppose. . . .

Right, if that was an effort to get through, Mr X will be back tomorrow. Unlucky for you guys, I will be back on Thursday. Toodles.
