How will we fare against Liverpool?

I’m sure you’re all looking forward to our FA Cup match against Liverpool, this Saturday. It is a very important competition to a lot of people for whom it brings back many memories- both good and bad.

Liverpool, despite their league position may suggest, are not a mid-table Premier League club. They are a team that should be challenging for Champions League football every year.

They’ve hit a good run of form lately, and they most certainly will be looking to mount a challenge to play in Europe next season.

I’ve already done a match preview for the tie, so I’m just going to talk about how I think we should approach the game.

We came very close against Chelsea back in September (thanks to Andre Shurrle missing about 15 chances), however the bottom line is that we didn’t win. Why? Because we didn’t create enough chances. And because Beckford was playing…

It’s fair to say that Liverpool have been playing well of late- but so have we. We have real quality in our team and the likes of Eidur Gudjohnsen and Darren Pratley have been awesome in recent weeks.

I think we really just need to focus on playing our own game against Liverpool. Last time we played them we won 3-1. That was because we brought our own game to them. Confidence is so important to football teams, and our team has a decent amount of it.

Zach Clough is set to return, which will be a bonus- we’ve lacked creative spark recently.

Neil Lennon is a very good manager. He’s proved it at Celtic, and now he’s doing it again here at Bolton Wanderers. He knows what he’s doing. Past experience of watching (and admiring) Lennon suggests that his team may well hold back and look to force a replay at home.

Everyone remembers that legendary night during which his Celtic side beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The home team completely dominated, though what matters at the end of the day is the result.

The difference in class between Barcelona and Celtic is bigger than that of Liverpool and Bolton, and so I don’t feel that we need to park the bus for the whole match.

I really just think we should attack from the off with as little fear as possible, but at the end of the day I just want a win…
