We need heroes

You can say what you want about our players and our coaching staff. However, one thing we must acknowledge has been their attitude in recent weeks.

They haven’t been paid for November, and don’t look as though they will in December either. Have you heard one player complain? No. Have they looked dejected on the pitch and as if they have given up? No.

Yes, sure they make a lot of money anyway, when they do get paid, but the point is that they are on contracts and their contracts entitle them to £X amount every week, and they’re not getting that even though they are still fulfilling other aspects such as turning up to training and to matches.

Players have been in this situation before at other clubs and have complained and looked as though they don’t care on the pitch. They have walked out before, and that’s something that our players have a right to do too. The likes of Jay Spearing, Ben Amos, Zach Clough and Josh Vela could all find other Championship clubs easily. Time will tell whether they do or not and to be honest I wouldn’t blame them though I would be surprised. Spearing has always shown incredible drive whenever he’s played. He could be accused of trying too hard but is that the worst thing in the world? It’s clear that he loves this club dare I say it almost as much as he loves Liverpool. Amos is a model professional and clearly loves what he does. He, too, is a fighter and has waited his whole career for first team football. He’s getting it now and doing well- he shouldn’t leave. Clough and Vela are both brilliant stories from our academies and could even be interesting Premier League clubs- I’m less confident about them staying because they will want to be playing at a higher level than this in the future but I hope that they at least choose to wait until clubs make transfer bids for them, so that the club they love makes money.

Other players such as Liam Feeney, Neil Danns, Shola Ameobi, Emile Heskey and Prince Desir Gouano among others all look like they’re giving everything on the pitch. You can complain and say they’re not so good technically, or that they’re inconsistent but you can at least see that they’re all working to step up.

They all have to step up if we want to survive.
