BWFC: I Survived The International Break

Chris Le Friec’s latest weekly roundup

Never has it interested me the, international break. I find it pointless- it breaks strides and momentum. So naturally this year as we have none of that I`m pleased about it! Cue contradicting myself.

The Motherwell game was a good opportunity to get some players minutes under there belt. Derik played well and the two full backs got a run out. Fingers crossed this will all help for preparation for the Wolves game.

Did I forget to mention that Emile ‘Ivanhoe` Heskey scored as did Dobbie again. Does this perhaps give NL some selection issues for Saturday? Your guess is as good as mine.

In other news we have signed Paul Rachubka this week as a back up for Amos. He has experience in the Football League and will be a good deputy I`m sure. I don`t think it is time for our youth keepers to warm the first team bench yet- they should be playing regular football and developing.

So super Kevin Davies has retired. On a personal level I would like to thank him for his time spent at Bolton he led the line fantastically for us through several managers, highs and lows.

He was for so long the only name I would get on my shirt. I`m glad that he did get his England cap whilst with us albeit well overdue.

One of my many favourite KD moments was the time in Munich. The Germans did not like his physicality and didn`t know how to play him. Let us not forget that the Munich team: Kahn, Ribery, Kroos,Van Bommel, Schweinsteiger,Podolski and Klose to name a few.

I believe he will make a return to the Macron in the future in some role. How can you not?

I will not dwell on the transfer deadline day too much as it was all a very frustrating day which also gave us a grave sense of reality.

How many of us watched all day? The Sky Sports News coverage, The Bolton News live blog (quite entertaining) and the constant Twitter rumours.

I was yet again sucked in. I knew that NL had done great business already if I was thinking with my heart. 11 players in for free and some are going to be real gems.

But there was some part of me that thought. Maybe Hooper? Maybe Nolan? It was the latter that made the hairs on my neck stand on end. Not that we need another midfielder, but it was the romance about it I was dreaming of.

Nolan signs, gels with Pratley, Clough etc. and grabs the others by the scruff and drags us up the league ever so near a playoff place.

Then it hit 6pm someone pinched me and I discovered the true state of our football club. There was never going to be a signing and we are more like a company in liquidation than a club pushing for promotion. We dangle on the line of ‘just enough` by this I mean the true effects of our relegation from the premier league have hit home.

With dreams and reality out the window and in the football clouds we leave it to the footballing gods to shine down on us once again.

Wolves next?
