The Wanderers are one of the form teams in the league and 8 games unbeaten. No, honest

Oh, wouldn`t it be great if the season only started 8 games ago?

The Wanderers would be unbeaten; they would boast one of the league’s top goal scorers and enjoy a competent defensive set-up which reads a +6 goal-difference in the Championship table.

As brilliant as it sounds and as science fiction it would have to be to pull-off, the Whites would still not be top of the league. In fact, they wouldn`t even be in the automatic promotion spots.

I`ve only checked the last 8 results of the top three teams currently sitting atop the table- Burnley, Leicester and QPR- but the Wanderers would park below all three of them.

Rob2k, you`re up again, to see exactly where Bolton would be if the league started 8 games ago.

While Rob does his thing to show exactly where the Whites would sit (you`re not obliged, Rob, only if you want) safe to say, Bolton Wanderers are one of the league’s form teams.

The ship was steadied instantaneously after the three loan signings donned the shirt. With the vessel now secure enough to navigate the league’s oceans, shipmate Beckford has enjoyed enough calm water to drop his oar, position himself at the canon and sink a few ships.

Now that the rickety boat has finally become a battleship, moving away from falling off the world`s end and winning small victories on their merry way, Master and Commander, Freedman has his followers again believing they can win the war.

With optimism undoubtedly growing in Bolton ranks across the globe once more, I refuse to let it filter into my psyche just yet. The past 127 times I`ve allowed ‘optimism` to envelop me in the past 3 years have taught me to stay well clear.

However, it is great to witness the Wanderers winning games again. The league is so tough nowadays; winning a Championship game against opposition anywhere near the play-off spots or above, is the equivalent of beating a Premier League side in the bottom 6 or 7 of the top-flight. So heading to Hertfordshire and beating Watford, no matter how depleted a team they presented yesterday, is no mean feat. Especially when that victory resulted in a clean sheet and restricting the technically gifted side to just 1 shot on target.

Of course, to start talking about promotion or even making the play-offs, so soon into the Whites` revival is folly. Enjoy the victory at Vicarage Road by all means and also, you can start looking up the league instead of checking over your shoulder- I think it`s now safe to do so.

Just be grateful the Wanderers of Bolton are again competitive in a league which seemed alien to the boys not 2 months ago.
