Top of Mike`s Christmas card list, Phil Gartside, has bee chatting to the good folk at BBC Radio Manchester about Bolton`s battle to bring Jermaine Beckford to the Reebok. Phil had some good news and bad news for Wanderers` supporters? I`ll let you decide which is you think is which.
Our chairman revealed there would be an imminent signing- within the next 48 hours- then continued to confirm the name Jermaine Beckford. He then went on to say, Beckford would likely be the last new recruit to Dougie`s army before the start of the opening game of the season, away at Turf Moor.
Good news or bad news is relative. If you believe Beckford to be the answer to our goal-scoring face-plants and the rest of the team is already his goal-supplying machine waiting to happen, Gartside`s news is all good. However, if you believe Jermaine to be a spent force, or male diva who has warped opinions of his own ability, then the revelation of no more signings before the snarling Clarets get their mucky hands on us again, will already have your knees-a-knockin`.
You could be walking along the white lines of the road and feel indifferent to the prospect of Beckford`s arrival, or the closing of the door behind him. But with August 3rd only 19 days away, the fuse already seems lit. Undoubtedly, Burnley will be ready for our arrival whomever they`ve signed. I just hope when that whistle blows, Dougie is completely confident with his team and the new recruits, because if he`s walking with the fans on the white lines of the road? squish, just like grape.
