Changes Afoot As Bolton Head Down To The South West

|

After Saturday’s mess Bolton only have to go all the way down to Devon to take on the league leaders tonight.

And that’s not taking into account Plymouth Argyle are on a decent unbeaten run and we have a number of injuries and suspensions to deal with. Apart from that…

Team news

Where do we start? Ricardo Santos is suspended, Gethin Jones is out for a while as his injury was worse than first feared, while Kieran Lee and Declan John were the two who also got injured last week. Antoni Sarcevic isn’t fully fit either. Ian Evatt is also serving a touchline ban.

Possible XI: Dixon; Brockbank, Baptiste, Johnston, Gordon; Williams, Sheehan; Isgrove, Thomason, Afolayan; Bakayoko

Last time out..,

This our first trip to Home Park since September 1992, when we lost 2-1. It all ended well though, as that was the season we were promoted from Division 2. We’ve not won down there on any of our last five visits, the last victory coming back in 1975.

The opposition

Plymouth Argyle haven’t lost a league game since their opening day defeat to Rotherham and have progressed well under Ryan Lowe, promoted from League Two in his first season in charge (2019/20) before consolidating last season. Their wing backs could be important, captain Joe Edwards joined the club the same summer as Ryan Lowe did, while on the left Conor Grant has a strike on him. If they go unchanged from the weekend, top scorer Ryan Hardie would be on the bench, but academy product Luke Jephcott has five goals this season and has attracted Championship interest, and had a run of form last season where he scored 14 goals in 18 games.

Prediction

I’ll go 1-1. Feels mad to do so, but a few times last season we pulled a result out of nowhere, so maybe this the night for one of those.
