Come on Barcelona!

There was a time when you’d always support a british team in Europe. All the way through the 1970s, I’d be cheering the likes of Toshack, Keegan, Thompson and the like on towards European Cup success. Heaven knows, I even cheered United on when they beat Bayern Munich.

Yet come Wednedsy night, I’ll be donning my Barca shirt and cheering on the Catalan lads. Why? Two words. Rafa Benitez.

The man is a disgrace. He knows nothing of British football and continues to think that Spanish football is the way forward for one of England’s greatest clubs.

The big test was the Carling Cup. According to Rafa, it was unimportant, a mere trifle. Yet every single Liverpool fan I know was angry during the Arsenal game and even angrier afterwards. Liverpool fans want, no, demand trophies. And so they should, being the English club with the biggest collection of silverware.

Rafa Benitez laughed in their faces. How they have forgiven him is beyond me.

Liverpool will not win the Premiership with Benitez in charge, no matter how much money George W. Bush’s mates plough into the club (Liverpool owned by a bunch of right-wing fanatics, whatever next?)

It’s time that Liverpool ditched the clown and allowed me to enjoy good old European nights supporting good old British clubs.

And while we’re at it, why is Steve McClaren doing his level best to ruin the England games for me as well?
