We know that Neil Lennon wants to keep Emile Heskey and we also know that the former Liverpool, Aston Villa and England man – among others – wants to stay with Bolton.
Another thing that we know is Heskey isn’t often short of a word or two for TalkSport is he! And it’s to them today that he’s revealed that this new deal is ‘close.’
This, you imagine, shouldn’t take too much faffing around with really if it’s something that all parties want!
‘I’m close to signing a new contract at Bolton for next season. We’ll be sitting down very soon and discussing it further.
‘The manager has said he wants me to stay, and I’d love to stay here. The fans have been great and the players are exceptional.’
At 37 Heskey could take the easy life and call it a day even, he doesn’t want that. He could also sit back, relax and take the money but he’s eager to play his part in a promotion push to get us back into the Premier League.
‘Next season the manager is looking to push for promotion as long as he can get in the players who can take the club forward.’
You also tend to think that it’ll take a significant turnaround for this to be the case next season but with the right tweaking, and right – realistic – options coming in then if you take the positives from this season, with some serious consistency, anything’s possible.
You’ve got to aim high anyway….
