Diouf Angers Black Cats

Interesting headline eh? Relax, the demon Diouf hasn`t been caught doing bad things to cute furry animals. Instead, he`s irritated a lower life form, namely Sunderland fans.

What heinous crime has Diouf committed? He shook hands with his former team mates after Bolton`s trouncing of Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and then acknowledged supporters of the club where he played for four years. What a bastard.

That the Mackems were traumatised at their team`s defending is understandable, but the comments made on the SMB forum about the former Bolton striker are as unacceptable as they hysterical. The abuse runs to thirteen pages with only the occasional interjection from those grounded in reality. A few samples are below. Apologies for all the asterisks.

– As much as I think he’s a good squad player, he can f*** off in January after that. Bolton fans were singing they want him back…..they can have the c*** back.
– Another S*** Keane signing. F*** off Diouf you ugly t***
– judgeing by the picture, get the f*** out of the club now. bang out of order celebrating on the pitch like that. wtf is he so f****** happy about? C****
– What he did was a f****** p*** take and a extra kick in the teeth to the Sunderland fans….. Get rid.

Diouf was part of a Bolton team that qualified for Europe twice and finished in the top eight of the Premier League on four successive occasions. When the press and others too dim to think for themselves were vilifying him, Wanderers fans took the Senegal international to their hearts and even made a joke of the hostile reception he got from other fans.

Although he chose to leave the club at the end of last season, Diouf has always expressed gratitude toward Bolton for giving him a chance when his career had stalled. It is right that a mutual affection should remain, even though he now plays for someone else. That shouldn`t be too difficult to understand, but it seems that Sunderland`s hordes are determined to affirm their reputation as the vilest fans in football.
